Astrud Gilberto’s Sons: Meet João Marcelo And Gregory Lasorsa: Born on March 29, 1940, Astrud Gilberto officially known as Astrud Evangelina Weinert was a Brazilian samba and bossa nova singer.

She developed a passion for music at a younger age and was consistent throughout her career rising through the ranks to become one of the most sought-after singers.

Astrud Gilberto became a household name in the 1960s following her recording of the song “The Girl from Ipanema”.

Her version of ‘The Girl From Ipanema’ went on to be a global hit, selling more than five million copies worldwide and boosting the profile of bossa nova music internationally.

Astrud had not previously been rated as a key figure in the bossa nova movement, as she had never sung professionally before but that one hit record changed everything.

The song was taken from the album Getz/Gilberto, a collaboration set featuring the American saxophonist Stan Getz and the Brazilian guitarist João Gilberto.

Astrud sang the English words on the 1963 album Getz/Gilberto as her first professional gig, going on to record 16 studio albums over the course of her career.

Sadly, The Girl from Ipanema singer has died. Astrud Gilberto passed away at the age of 83 on Monday, June 5, 2023. The cause of her death has not yet been made public

Astrud was one of Brazil’s biggest stars of the 1960s and 70s. Astrud worked with artists ranging from Quincy Jones to George Michael, among others.

Apart from her career as a musician, she was also known for advocating animal rights. She used her platform to raise awareness about the welfare of animals.

Astrud Gilberto is survived by two sons namely; João Marcelo Gilberto and Gregory Lasorsa.

She shares João Marcelo Gilberto with her ex-husband, João Gilberto, and Gregory Lasorsa from a second marriage but the name of her second husband is unknown at the time of this writing.

Marcelo followed his parents’ footsteps in the music. He inherited his father’s musical genes and became a skilled bassist and toured with her mother for more than a decade.

Although Gregory is not directly involved in the music industry like his brother, he has contributed to the family’s musical legacy through his work behind the scenes

In 1990, Astrud, João Marcelo, and Gregory joined forces to establish Gregmar Productions, Inc., a production company aimed at promoting Astrud’s music and developing new material.
