The Federal Jury of Denver, Colorado, convicted Harlod for the murder of his wife, Toni Henthorn. She fell from 42 meters cliff of Rocky Mountain National Park.

The death of Lynn was initially deemed as a car accident in 1995. She was reportedly crushed by a Jeep while she was changing the tire of her own car.

Being the husband, Henthrone was the acquirer of her insurance policy worth nearly AUD$688,000. He was later sentenced to Life imprisonment with no possibility of parole after the jury found him guilty of the murder of Lynn.
