Jeff Brohm Wife: Meet Jennifer L. Hawkins – Jeff Brohm played college football for coach Howard Schnellenberger at the University of Louisville from 1989 to 1993 before joining the National Football League (NFL) for seven seasons from 1994 to 2000 and the XFL in 2001.

Brohm signed as an undrafted free agent with the San Diego Chargers in 1994 after going undrafted in the NFL Draft. Brohm beat out Trent Green for the team’s third-string quarterback position. Brohm spent the season as the Chargers’ third-string quarterback, never playing a game as the team lost Super Bowl XXXIX.

Brohm was a standout high school player at Louisville’s Trinity High School. He was named “Kentucky High School Player of the Decade” in the 1980s and received the Kentucky “Mr. Football” Award in 1988 after leading his team to a state championship and an undefeated season.

Jeff Brohm was inducted into the Kentucky High School Athletic Association Hall of Fame in 2014. Jeff Brohm committed to play football for Howard Schnellenberger’s Louisville Cardinals in February 1989. Brohm appeared in every game but was limited to filling in for Browning Nagle.

In the 1991 Fiesta Bowl, the Cardinals finished the season 10-1-1. Brohm played two series in the Fiesta Bowl, but was intercepted on the first.

On his second series, he was intercepted again by Charles Garner, who returned it 49 yards for a touchdown.

Brohm took over as starting quarterback for the 1991 team after Nagle graduated. Brohm and the Cardinals were playing the Tennessee Volunteers just two games into the season when Brohm suffered a fracture in his right ankle, putting him in a cast for six weeks.

Brohm returned from an ankle injury to take over as starting quarterback. Brohm was a two-point conversion away from defeating number 17 Ohio State in his first game back when his pressured pass floated just past the arms of Ralph Dawkins.

Brohm performed admirably against the sixth-ranked Florida Gators, completing 66.6% of his passes and frustrating the Gators defense with his ability to scramble. The Cardinals were defeated 31-17.

Brohm was back for his senior year. Brohm proved he was fully recovered from his ankle injury after taking every snap as a junior.

After defeating San Jose State to start the season, Brohm dominated Memphis State, throwing for four touchdowns and 219 yards—175 yards and three touchdowns to Aaron Bailey.

The following week, Brohm threw for a career-high 331 yards in a 35-17 victory over number 23 Arizona State. Jeff Brohm led the Cardinals to a 17th-place finish.

Brohm threw for 270 yards in a game against number 24 West Virginia. He did, however, commit two critical turnovers, including an interception with 3:02 remaining.

The Cardinals were defeated 36-34 by the Mountaineers. Following a 7-1 start, the Cardinals accepted a bid to host the 1993 Liberty Bowl. In Louisville’s final regular-season game, Brohm broke his index finger on his passing hand.

His finger was repaired with a steel plate and pins, and he couldn’t throw until a week before the bowl game.

Brohm threw for two touchdowns in the final minute to lead the Cardinals to an 18-7 victory over Michigan State in the Liberty Bowl after trailing 7-3 entering the fourth quarter.

Brohm was drafted by the Montreal Expos in the seventh round of the 1989 MLB Draft after graduating from Trinity High School. He declined the Expos’ offer, instead accepting a scholarship to play football for the University of Louisville. After one year of college football, he changed his mind and decided to pursue both sports, playing minor league baseball during the summers.
