Jesse Kriel siblings-South African rugby union player, Jesse André Kriel was born on February 15, 1994, in Cape Town, South Africa.

Jesse Kriel career

Kriel, a Maritzburg College student, was chosen for the Sharks team for the Under-18 Craven Week competition. His performance there led to his selection for the South African Schools team in 2012.

In the three-match series played in August 2012, he began games against France and England and was not used as a substitute against Wales.

Kriel and his twin brother Dan moved to Pretoria after completing their educations to play for the Blue Bulls before the 2013 season.

Despite initially not being selected for the South Africa Under-20 team for the 2013 IRB Junior World Championship, Sergeal Petersen’s hamstring injury caused Kriel to be added to the team.

Kriel made his competition debut as a substitute and contributed two tries to their convincing 97-0 win over the United States.

Thereafter, substitute performances were made against France and England[14]. Prior to making his first start of the competition in the third-place play-off match against New Zealand, he was an unused substitute in their semi-final game against Wales.

Kriel continued to play youth rugby for the Blue Bulls the rest of the year, earning three appearances for the Blue Bulls U21 team while scoring 42 points in 10 games to assist the Blue Bulls U19 team win the 2013 Under-19 Provincial Championship.

Kriel was appointed one of the two vice-captains for the 2014 IRB Junior World Championship as well as being a member of South Africa’s Under-20 team.

Prior to the 2014 Super Rugby season, Kriel was a member of the Bulls training squad; however, he did not make any matchday teams and instead participated in the 2014 Vodacom Cup with the Blue Bulls.

On March 8, 2014, in Pretoria against Griquas, he made his first appearance in the first class. A week later, in their game against the Pumas, he scored his first senior try.

He renewed his contract with the Bulls through October 2018 in June 2015, and just two months later, after Kriel was selected for the South Africa team, he extended it once again until October 2019.

Kriel was included in an expanded South Africa team in June 2015 in preparation for the 2015 Rugby Championship. In an exhibition game against a World XV, he started for South Africa and contributed to their 46-10 victory.

As the match’s starting center and Springbok Number 867, he was selected for the team’s debut Rugby Championship game against Australia.

In addition to making his test debut in this game, Kriel also scored his first test try in the 44th minute. He did, however, lose the game as Australia prevailed 24-20 with to a late try by Tevita Kuridrani.

Kriel was selected for the South African team to compete in the 2019 Rugby World Cup. He was, however, forced to quit due to injury during the pool stage and Damian Willemse took his place. After defeating England in the championship match, South Africa went on to win the event.
