Newton graduated from Notre Dame High School in 2015. She was a member of the Notre Dame High School girls’ golf team; she helped the school’s golf team to win three league championships.

She frequently shot in the 70s, and her lowest tournament 18-hole score was a 69. She also established a school record with a nine-hole match round of five under par (-5) while playing with a plus-2 handicap (+2).

She had intended to compete in the 2012 U.S. Women’s Open, but after being offered the lead acting position in Paranormal Activity 4, she was forced to withdraw from the sectional qualification.

To focus on her acting career, she put off starting college at USC. She was considering joining the women’s golf team at the University of Southern California as a “walk-on.”

Newton started her career at age four, making her television debut on the soap opera All My Children, playing Colby Marian Chandler from 2001 to 2004. Meanwhile, she also starred in two short films, Abbie Down East (2002) and Bun-Bun (2003).

Louise Brooks, a character on the CBS comedy series Gary Unmarried, was given to Newton in 2008. She attended Notre Dame High School in Los Angeles after her family relocated there when she was twelve years old.

For her work in Gary Unmarried, Newton won two Young Artist Awards in 2010: one for “Best Performance in a TV Comedy Series” and the other for “Best Performance in a TV Series (Comedy or Drama). In the 2011 movie Bad Teacher, Newton portrayed Chase Rubin-Rossi.

In 2012’s Paranormal Activity 4, the fourth installment in the franchise, she played Alex, the lead character, and was recognized for it at the 34th Young Artist Awards. She played the recurring character Claire Novak on Supernatural starting in season 10.

Newton made an appearance in Big Little Lies, an HBO series based on the same-named Liane Moriarty book, in 2017. She also played Angela Hayes in Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri, and Ivy Burns in Ben Is Back.

In the 2019 blockbuster Pokémon Detective Pikachu, an animated film based on the same-named video game, Newton plays Lucy. She also portrayed Allie, the main character, in the May 10, 2019, Netflix mystery drama series The Society.

She played a teenage girl who swaps bodies with a serial killer in Christopher Landon’s well-received horror comedy Freaky in 2020.

She starred in Ian Samuels’ 2021 film The Map of Small Perfect Things. In the Marvel Cinematic Universe film Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, she will play Cassie Lang.
