In the 2015 NBA Draft, Oubre was chosen with the 15th overall choice by the Atlanta Hawks. The Washington Wizards then acquired his draft rights.

In a 114-95 loss against the San Antonio Spurs on December 16, 2015, he scored a career-high 18 points on 6-of-15 shooting. Oubre demonstrated potential as a “3 and D” player during his limited playing time in his rookie campaign.

In a 101-95 overtime victory over the Sacramento Kings on November 28, 2016, Oubre achieved his first career double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds.

Five times in 2017–18, Oubre scored more than 20 points; on January 19, he set a career-high with 26 points in a 122–112 victory over the Detroit Pistons.

Trevor Ariza and Oubre were dealt to the Phoenix Suns on December 17, 2018, along with Austin Rivers. Two days later, he made his Suns debut, going 13 points for the team against the Boston Celtics in a 111-103 victory.

On January 8, 2019, in a 115–111 victory over the Sacramento Kings, Oubre equaled his career high with 26 points. In a 102–93 victory over the Denver Nuggets four days later, he tied his career high of 26 points and rebounds with 11 in the same game.

Oubre and the Phoenix Suns agreed to a two-year, $30 million contract extension on July 16, 2019. On December 5, Oubre defeated the New Orleans Pelicans 139-132 in overtime thanks to a career-high 15 rebounds, 14 points, and four blocks.

On November 16, 2020, Oubre was sent to the Oklahoma City Thunder in exchange for Chris Paul and Abdel Nader, along with Jalen Lecque, Ricky Rubio, Ty Jerome, and a 2022 first-round lottery pick.

Oubre was dealt to the Golden State Warriors on November 22 in return for a 2021 second-round selection and a conditional first-round pick.

In his Warriors debut on December 22, 2020, Oubre finished with six points and seven rebounds in a 125–99 loss to the Brooklyn Nets. On February 4, 2021, Oubre defeated the Dallas Mavericks 147-116, recording a career-high 40 points.

In a 158–126 victory over the Indiana Pacers on January 26, 2022, Oubre recorded a career-high 10 three-pointers in addition to a season-high 39 points.

On November 18, 2022, in a 132-122 overtime loss to the Cleveland Cavaliers, Oubre recorded a season-high 34 points, three rebounds, and three steals.

He was injured in the left hand during a 121–113 victory over the Oklahoma City Thunder on December 29. Oubre had surgery on January 5, 2023, to repair a damaged ligament in his left hand, following which he was sidelined indefinitely.

On February 24, he played in his first game back, going 8 points and grabbing 3 rebounds in a 121-113 victory over the Minnesota Timberwolves.

Oubre inked a contract with the Philadelphia 76ers on September 26, 2023. On November 11, Oubre was hit by an automobile while out on a stroll close to his Center City home.

He was taken to the hospital, and it’s likely that he will be out for a while. Oubre was averaging 16.3 points, 5.1 rebounds, and 50% shooting in 29 minutes per game at the time of the crash.
