Stefanski was born on May 8, 1982, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He went to St. Joseph’s Preparatory School where he started playing football and graduated in 2000. After that, he went to the University of Pennsylvania. He won the Penn Freshman of the Year award in high school and was part of the only undefeated Penn team of the decade.

His coaching career started in 2005 at the Penn State where he was given the role of Assistant director of football operations. In 2006, he joined the Minnesota Vikings as an assistant to head coach Brad Childress. He stayed with the Vikings for almost 13 years and held a number of positions. From 2009 to 2013, he was the assistant quarterbacks’ coach. From 2014 to 2015 he was a tight ends coach. In 2016, he was the running backs coach. From 2017 to 2018 he held the role of quarterbacks coach. His last role with the Vikings was as an offensive coordinator.

On January 13, 2020, Stefanski was hired as the new head coach of the Cleveland Browns. He signed a 5-year contract to become their 18^th head coach.
