Fernandez defeated fellow Canadian Carson Branstine in the Gatineau Challenger final on July 21, 2019, to win her maiden professional singles tennis title.

When Fernandez paired up with Rebecca Marino of Vancouver, they won Fernandez’s first professional doubles championship on the same day.

At the Australian Open, Fernandez played in her first Grand Slam match. She was defeated by Lauren Davis in the opening round after qualifying.

The following week, she defeated world No. 5 Belinda Bencic in the Billie Jean King Cup qualifying round, earning her best career victory.

The Adelaide International was where Fernandez began the season. She made it to the round of 16, where she was eliminated in straight sets by Iga Witek. As the 23rd seed, she was defeated by Maddison Inglis in the Australian Open first round.

At the Auckland Open to begin the 2023 season, Fernandez advanced to the quarterfinals. She defeated Alizé Cornet in the opening round of the Australian Open. She faced set points in both sets of her second-round encounter against world No. 4 Caroline Garcia but ultimately fell short.

Together with Taylor Townsend, they competed in the doubles event at the Miami Open and advanced to the final, where they were defeated by the American No. 1 team of Coco Gauff and Jessica Pegula. She climbed 40 spots to a new career high in the doubles rankings as a consequence, and later in the month, she reached No. 38.

She advanced to the second round of the singles competition at the French Open but fell to Clara Tauson. She and Taylor Townsend made their first major doubles final at the same competition.
