Stellan Skarsgård parents-Swedish actor, Stellan Skarsgård was born on June 13, 1951 in Gothenburg, Sweden.

Skarsgård was born to Gudrun Larrson and Jan Skarsgård. He resided in Helsingborg, Totebo, Kalmar, Marielund, and Uppsala among other places throughout his formative years.

Skarsgrd is well-known for his work in television, specifically for his portrayal of Boris Shcherbina in the HBO miniseries Chernobyl (2019), for which he was nominated for a Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Limited or Anthology Series or Movie and won the Golden Globe for Best Supporting Actor-Series, Miniseries or Television Film. He plays the lead role in Disney+’s Andor (2022), a Star Wars prequel series.

Stellan Skarsgård career

Skarsgård began performing at a young age, and by the time he was 21, he had a good deal of stage, screen, and television experience.

The majority of his early performances were in Swedish movies and television shows like Bombi Bitt. The Swedish movie Good Evening, Mr. Wallenberg, in which Skarsgård plays Swedish ambassador Raoul Wallenberg, who worked to save Holocaust victims, may be the most well-known example of his work.

Skarsgård has acted in six films by Danish auteur Lars von Trier, including The Kingdom, Breaking the Waves, Dancer in the Dark, Dogville, Melancholia, and Nymphomaniac. Von Trier is particularly known for these films.

The Norwegian filmmaker Hans Petter Moland, who has worked with the actor on Zero Kelvin, Aberdeen, In Order of Disappearances, and A Somewhat Gentle Man, is the one with whom he has had the closest professional ties.

When asked about their friendship in 2009, Skarsgård remarked of Moland and him: “We’re like an old married couple and I get separation anxiety.”

He is also well known for his 1997 Norwegian film Insomnia, in which he portrays the guilty police officer Jonas Engström.

The 1985 Michael Fields picture Noon Wine, in which Skarsgård played a mentally unstable immigrant farmhand being pursued by a bounty hunter, was his first American production.

He played the farmer alongside Fred Ward in the film. He played the role of Captain Tupolev, a Soviet submarine captain, in the 1990 American movie The Hunt for Red October.

In Schindler’s List, he was a candidate for the Oskar Schindler part. Liam Neeson played Schindler in the movie, and Skarsgård has said that he was frequently mistaken for Neeson. Skarsgård later took over for Neeson in the 2004 movie Exorcist: The Beginning.

He made a guest appearance on Entourage as Verner Vollstedt, the antagonistic German director of the made-up movie Smokejumpers, who is opposed to Vincent Chase, the main character.

In both Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest and Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End, Skarsgård played Bootstrap Bill Turner.

He played Bill Anderson in the 2008 film Mamma Mia! for Universal Pictures, and he returned to the character in the 2009 follow-up Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again.

In the 2011 movie Thor, Skarsgård portrayed Dr. Erik Selvig. He later returned to the role in Thor: The Dark World (2013), Thor: Love and Thunder (2022), The Avengers (2012), and Avengers: Age of Ultron (2015).

For the 2015 live-action remake of Disney’s Cinderella, Skarsgård collaborated once more with Thor director Kenneth Branagh, as The Grand Duke. He portrayed Vladimir Harkonnen in Denis Villeneuve’s Dune in the year 2021.

Skarsgård has shared the screen with other Swedes in music videos. He appeared in two songs by Eva Dahlgren: “Vem tänder stjärnorna” (Who Lights the Stars) from 1991 and “Sadness Is a Blessing” from Lykke Li.
