He developed a passion for wrestling at a younger age, was consistent throughout his career, and became one of the most sought-after American wrestlers.

Funk is considered one of the greatest professional wrestlers of all time and was known for the longevity of his career which spanned for more than five decades.

His over 50-year career embodied multiple short-lived retirements and the influential hardcore wrestling style he pioneered in the latter part of his career.

Over the course of his career, Funk has wrestled for numerous major promotions including; All Japan Pro Wrestling, Extreme Championship Wrestling, and the International Wrestling Association of Japan.

He again wrestled under the promotions; Frontier Martial-Arts Wrestling, the United States Wrestling Association, World Championship Wrestling, and the World Wrestling Federation.

Funk also had stints under multiple National Wrestling Alliance territories including Big Time Wrestling, Championship Wrestling from Florida, Georgia Championship Wrestling, and Stampede Wrestling.

He was the promoter of the Amarillo-based Western States Sports promotion. Over the course of his career, Funk held a number of championships.

He held the ECW World Heavyweight Championship, NWA World Heavyweight Championship, USWA Unified World Heavyweight Championship, WWF World Tag Team Championship, and ECW World Television Championship.

Funk headlined ECW’s premier annual pay-per-view event, November to Remember, three times. He was been inducted into multiple halls of fame, among them WWE, WCW, NWA, and Hardcore.

Sadly, the WWE wrestling icon has passed away. Terry Funk died at 79 on Wednesday, 23rd August 2023. At this time of writing, the cause of his death has not been made public.

However, according to reports, Funk “was in bad health for some time” and was “in a nursing home.” His death was also confirmed in a statement by the WWE.
