Trevor Francis Death: When Did Trevor Francis Die?: Trevor Francis, officially known as Trevor John Francis was a professional English footballer.

He developed a passion for playing football at a younger age, was consistent throughout his career, and rose to become one of the most sought-after footballers.

During his career, he played as a forward for a number of clubs in England, the United States, Italy, Scotland, and Australia, among others.

He had stints with a number of clubs including; Birmingham City, Detroit Express (NASL), Nottingham Forest, Manchester City, Sampdoria, Atalanta, Rangers, Queens Park Rangers, and Sheffield Wednesday.

In 1979, Francis hit major headlines when he became Britain’s first £1 million player following his transfer from Birmingham City to Nottingham Forest.

He won two European Cups with Nottingham Forest in 1979, when he scored the winner against Malmo, and 1980.

At international level, he played for England 52 times between 1976 and 1986, scoring 12 goals, and played at the 1982 FIFA World Cup.

Francis retired as a player in 1994, shortly before his 40th birthday, having made 632 appearances and scored 235 goals.

After handing his boots, he moved into management where he reached the finals of the FA Cup and League Cup with Sheffield Wednesday and also guided Birmingham City to a League Cup final during his time in charge.

His final managerial post was at Crystal Palace where he spent two years. Francis also worked as a media pundit with Sky Sports and BT Sport.

A statement from his family said: “Trevor Francis has died at the age of 69. He had a heart attack at his apartment in Spain this morning. On behalf of the family, this has come as a huge shock to everybody. We are all very upset. He was a legendary footballer but he was also an extremely nice person.”

Following his demise, Francis’s former clubs, teammates, and colleagues have paid tribute to him.

Nottingham Forest tweeted; “Nottingham Forest is deeply saddened to learn of the passing of two-time European Cup winner, Trevor Francis. A true Forest legend who will never be forgotten”

Birmingham City tweeted; “Blues is deeply saddened and shocked to learn of the passing of Club legend Trevor Francis, at the age of 69 on Monday 24 July 2023. Trevor will forever be revered as a giant of the Club, the player everyone wanted to see. He represented Blues on 330 occasions, scoring 133 goals. Blues sends its thoughts and deepest sympathies to Trevor’s family and friends”

Aston Villa tweeted; “Everyone at Aston Villa is deeply saddened by the passing of Trevor Francis, a true legend of the game, especially in the Midlands but also across the football world. The thoughts of all at the club are with Trevor’s family and friends and everyone at Birmingham City at this time”
